Selah
She catches her reflection in building window, early in the morning
She can’t help but to see if she’s pretty enough
The wind sweeps up her hair so you can see the scar on the back of her shoulder
But it’s been so long
She doesn’t care
They’ve always been broad, her arms always strong
She’s always been proud she could hold her own
But now there’s no one to lean her head against
She’s not too proud to ask but she’ll close her eyes and say she won’t go back
She thinks of new songs as she walks down the streets of Austin
She waves to the bus driver on her way through Alabama
When she finally sees the ocean she reaches for her journal
To write about the blue in the ocean and the sky
And she sings…
I breathe in, my heart beats
I breathe out I know, I know you love me
I breathe in I hear the water roll
I breathe out
I breathe in, my heart beats
I breathe out I know, I know you love me
I breathe in I hear the water roll
I breathe out…selah
The same things break her heart every time she stops
She sees she’s still a little girl
But with her sun kissed skin and a chewed on pen
She writes and sings about what she knows
