Seventy Three

I’ve been walking through this dry river bed (this is where I stand)
I’ve watched others dance while I just hide my head (I’m holding back)
I have been waiting for something that would change me (from who I am)
I have been waiting for love to take this broken body I have

I have kept the rules, I have shared my food and look where it has brought me (are you listening)
In this dry bed calling out to something I can’t even see
But I believed, surely I have done this all in vain
Surely you have kept your eyes away from all this pain (all this shame)

Then I came into your sanctuary
I saw your power and glory
All your waves and breakers swept over me
As deep calls back to deep
And I understand
So much will fade away but you remain
You are forever
And so faithful to me, so faithful to me

My flesh will fail me but you will lift me up
What else do I have to live for, you are the strength of my heart
Teach me to walk in your mercy, though the world turns against me

Teach me to say what I believe, what I have seen inside your sanctuary
